My first car was a 1955 Chevy, that when done in 1965 had a 327V8 and 4 speed tranny with a set of 4:10 gears. Sold it and purchased a 1967 Camaro 350 RS/SS 4 speed car again with a set of 4:10 Gears. Pulled the motor and dropped in a L88 427 with Esky 505 Roller and two 4's. A high 9 second 1/4 mile street car. Took a short trip to South East Asia in 1967 at the expense of our Federal Goverment and spent two years overseas. Came home in 1969 and sold the Camaro and bought a 1969 Mach I Mustang Automatic 351V8. Kept that car for 4 years and then bought a 1972 Chevy El Camino 396 4 speed car/truck. Again with the cam, carbs, and 4:10 gears. In 1974 I bought a E-100 Ford Van with a 351 / Auto and built my 1st hippie hot rod.
In 1999 I bought a Ford Lightning so I could pull my 1969 Olds 442, which I sold shortly there after and began the quest for more out of the Lightning. November of 1999 I started a club along with two other Lightning owners and the Houston Area Lightning Owners began. Its through that club that I met several other Lightning owners who all had the same ideas, go faster quicker. In our quest we discovered people who actually understood what we were looking for and the tuning, parts swapping began. It was through this I began to understand I didn't know it all after all. So I began reading, learning, and asking all the right people the right questions. I purchased a tuning package from SCT and began playing with my own vehicle. Learning everything I could about pcm's and what all they cover, do, and limits they have. | Custom.Performance.Tuning is a extension of all that youthful enthusiam and need for speed. Building and tuning hot rods was something I just flat enjoyed. It kept my hands busy and my mind occupied with something that was always challenging. Today it's a computer, calculator, and a diagnostic tool to tune a vehicle. So this old dog decided to learn all over again, and experience what it was like back then one more time. |
